Cholmondeley family commonplace book, circa 1610-1660.

Manuscript on paper, in several hands, of a commonplace book containing entries by several descendants of Sir Hugh Cholmondeley, including his son Thomas and his grandson Francis. Entries include Greek and Latin quotations and proverbs, many accompanied by student translations; extracts from theological works and pamphlets, including the sermons of Joseph Hall and Lancelot Andrews and Thomas Pierce's "The Self-Revenger Exemplified;" 4 pages of quotations on "Universal salvation;" and 9 pages of "verses" in English. The volume also contains an entry recording the death of Thomas Cholmondeley on 2 January 1653.
